Amazon on Tuesday introduced receipts in its response to seemingly defunct social networking platform Parler’s lawsuit towards it, detailing AWS’ repeated efforts to get Parler to handle specific threats of violence posted to the service.
Within the wake of the violent riot on the US Capitol final Wednesday, AWS kicked Parler off its Internet-hosting platform at midnight Sunday night. In response, Parler filed a lawsuit accusing Amazon of breaking a contract for political causes and colluding with Twitter to drive a competitor offline.
However the ban has nothing to do with “stifling viewpoints” or a “conspiracy” to restrain a competitor, Amazon stated in its response submitting (PDF). As a substitute, Amazon stated, “This case is about Parler’s demonstrated unwillingness and incapacity” to take away actively harmful content material, together with posts that incite and plan “the rape, torture, and assassination of named public officers and personal residents… AWS suspended Parler’s account as a final resort to forestall additional entry to such content material, together with plans for violence to disrupt the upcoming Presidential transition.”Learn 12 remaining paragraphs | Feedback
